Aménagement linguistique du montagnais dans la communaute de Mashteuiatsh: Le point de vue des jeunes

Abstract

Cette recherche se veut un complément logique à une précédente enquête sociolinguistique effectuée en 1993, auprès d'un échantillon représentant près de 25% de la population adulte de Mashteuiatsh, une communauté montagnaise où la langue ancestrale est menacée. Notre investigation visait à élargir et à compléter ce portrait social d'un point de vue linguistique par le questionnement d'adolescents de 14 à 17 ans. Une connaissance explicite des attitudes, des comportements et des perceptions des jeunes face au problème linguistique de leur communauté est capitale dans l'évaluation des possibilités de survie de la langue ancestrale. La comparaison des données de cet échantillon avec celles recueillies dans l'échantillon adulte de 1993 a permis de déterminer la ressemblance ou la dissemblance des perceptions. Quelques hypothèses ont finalement pu être formulées relativement aux possibilités de maintien de la langue ancestrale, tout en tenant compte de l'intérêt et de la volonté de la population.

This research is intended to be a logical complement to a previous sociolinguistic survey carried out in 1993, with a sample representing nearly 25% of the adult population of Mashteuiatsh, a Montagnais community where the ancestral language is threatened. Our investigation aimed to broaden and complete this social portrait from a linguistic point of view by questioning adolescents aged 14 to 17. Explicit knowledge of the attitudes, behaviors and perceptions of young people regarding the linguistic problem of their community is crucial in evaluating the possibilities of survival of the ancestral language. Comparing the data from this sample with those collected in the 1993 adult sample made it possible to determine the similarity or dissimilarity of perceptions. Some hypotheses were finally able to be formulated regarding the possibilities of maintaining the ancestral language, while taking into account the interest and will of the population.
