The purpose of this project was to design a program, identify potential funding sources, and write a grant to fund an obesity prevention program to reduce the rates and severity of obesity at one Southern California elementary school. An extensive literature review increased knowledge about the problem of obesity and provided a framework for a obesity prevention program in schools. A search for potential funding sources via the Internet and a grant database resulted in the selection of the Department of Health and Human Services as the best funding source for this project. A grant was then written to support an obesity prevention program at Arnold Elementary School in Torrance, California. The actual submission and/or funding of this grant was not a requirement for the successful completion of the project.
