by Lee, Valerie, M.S.W., California State University, Long Beach, 2011, 77; 1499267
Abstract (Summary)

The purpose of this project is to write a narrative about the experiences of the author as a sibling raising a sibling due to the death of a parent so that social workers and other professionals will better understand the challenges and benefits associated with this experience. The thesis will explore topics such as adolescent bereavement, gaining legal guardianship, kinship care, teen and single parenting, and financial and life supports. This thesis will give readers a candid glimpse into the life of a bereaved teenager determined to keep her family together. It is hoped that this narrative will be an educational tool for all social workers to begin to understand the experience of raising a sibling.
