Adolescent females are experiencing increased rates of substance abuse, delinquency, unplanned pregnancy, intimate partner violence, and school failure. A local program referred to as SERENA has been implemented by SPIRITT Family Services in Los Angeles County, California, in order to provide early intervention for the development of at-risk behaviors among adolescent females. The program involves school-based support groups for teen girls between the ages of 12–18 in order to enhance self-esteem, coping skills, and social skills. The purpose of this project was to identify a funding source and write a grant proposal in order to gain additional funding for the SERENA program. A thorough review of the literature was conducted to substantiate the need for and structure of the program. Actual submission and/or funding of this grant was not required for successful completion of this thesis project.
