My project exhibition Drawstring is comprised of sixteen mixed media paintings and drawings on paper or wood panels, ranging in size from four inches by four inches to twenty inches by thirty inches.
This exhibition is a collection of illustrated analogies, inspired by my daily observation of nature, human relationships and my personal experiences with both. I examine plants and animals closely, exploring the similarities between their physical and behavioral characteristics and those of mankind. In my drawings, I combined these elements from different species to create visual metaphors that narrate the relationships and interactions one may experience throughout his or her life.
I chose graphite as the primary medium because it allows me to accentuate detailed lines and marks. Acrylic washes were sometimes applied to emphasize the desired focal points, and screen printing was incorporated in some of the pieces to create visual depth.
