The purpose of this project was to locate a potential funding source and write a grant to develop a program for pregnant and parenting adolescents in the foster care system of Los Angeles County, California. The proposed program will assist adolescents and their offspring through education, support, counseling, and socialization. An extensive literature review was performed to investigate the best way to create successful futures for this population.
The Annie E. Casey Foundation was chosen as a potential fonder due to its similarity with the proposed project in mission statement, priorities, and level of funding. The foundation was also selected due to its eagerness to sustain family connections and its stated interest in assisting foster youth.
Many adolescents in this population yearn for healthy, life-long relationships. The proposed program would give them the skills, confidence, and support that are necessary for creating these relationships and lifetime bonds with their children.
