by Martinez-Gin, Guadalupe, M.S.W., California State University, Long Beach, 2010, 70; 1486659
Abstract (Summary)

The purpose of this project is to design an obesity prevention program to help reduce child and adolescent obesity and promoting a healthier lifestyle. In addition to designing the project, identifying a potential funder and writing a grant are also to be a part of the proposed program. An extensive literature review increased knowledge about the prevalence, risk factors and effects of child and adolescent obesity. The grant will be a school-based obesity prevention program that will serve all students attending Chester W. Nimitz Middle School, their parents, families, and the community. The goal is to reduce the number of children and adolescents who are currently obese or overweight. The objectives of the project include educating students, parents, families, and the community about the rise of obesity, promoting a healthy alternative lifestyle, and providing resources on how to incorporate their cultural foods into a healthy diet.
