The purpose of this project was to create a grant, identify potential funding sources and host agencies, for the development of a charter high school in Los Angeles, California. The school will serve students who have not been successful in traditional schools and are at risk for school failure and dropout. Social work interventions and practices will be incorporated into all aspects of its planning and operation. An extensive literature review increased the grant writer's knowledge of charter schools, resilience, evidence based resilience enhancement programs, environmental education, alternative education and school social work. A search for potential funders using the Internet resulted in the selection of the California Department of Education as the funding source and the Los Angeles Unified School District as the host agency. A grant was then written to support the planning of the charter high school.
