by Kamphuis, Leah, M.S.W., California State University, Long Beach, 2010, 71; 1486337
Abstract (Summary)

The purpose of this project was to write a grant for the attainment of funding for a psycho-educational support group for parents of children with traumatic brain injury (TBI) in Orange County, California. Research has shown a significant need in the form of psychological support and education regarding community resources available to parents of children with TBI. Based upon evidence based practice, an eight week program was developed by the grant writer to meet the needs of parents. Issues addressed include grief and loss, development of coping skills, conflict resolution, development of communication skills, parenting skills, medical management, and understanding the education system. The Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA), a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, was found to be the best funding source for this project. Actual submission and funding and/or funding of the grant was not required for successful completion of this project.
