by Nguyen, Mai, M.S.W., California State University, Long Beach, 2010, 75; 1486514
Abstract (Summary)

The purpose of this grant was to provide a program that would meet the needs of caregivers and their adult children with mental illness. There are two parts to this program; the first part of the program is a psychoeducational support group for caregivers. The purpose of the support group is to increase the caregiver's knowledge about mental health, increase their coping skills, provide a support system, and decrease their level of burden. The purpose of the art therapy group is to provide the adults with mental illness an outlet for them to express their thoughts and emotions in a non-verbal way, and increase their self-esteem while teaching them a new skill. The two groups will be held concurrently to facilitate attendance. The total cost to fund for both programs is $52,145.35/year.
