So Exotic explored the exotic by reframing Orientalism, the way the West illustrates the East. In these depictions there is often a luscious overabundance of wealth, food, flora and fauna, a sexually charged atmosphere, and a seeming depiction of people who have nothing to do but lounge around for what seems like an eternity. The concept was intentionally general allowing the viewer to experience their own reactions to the notion of the exotic within a surreal space that strangely re-contextualized images and objects that identify with the exotic. It consisted of a solo exhibition of my work as well as a group exhibition that I curated.
