Dissertation/Thesis Abstract

Support groups for older women who have experienced intimate partner violence: A grant proposal
by Alvarez, Mayra A., M.S.W., California State University, Long Beach, 2010, 64; 1486287
Abstract (Summary)

The purpose of this project was to design a program, identify potential funding sources, and write a grant to fund a program that would provide support groups for older women who have experienced intimate partner violence in Los Angeles, California. A literature review on intimate partner violence, how it affects older women, the effects of intimate partner violence, and support groups as the best method for treatment, increased the knowledge of the researcher. The literature review was also applied to and assisted in writing the grant. The Department of Justice Abuse in Later Life Program was selected as a funding source for the grant after an extensive search for possible funders via the Internet and a grant database. A grant was then written to fund a support group for older women who have experienced intimate partner violence at the agency Peace Over Violence in Los Angeles, California.
