by Middleton, Justine, M.F.A., California State University, Long Beach, 2010, 114; 1486427
Abstract (Summary)

There is Nowhere to go but to Arms is a collection of short stories which loosely thread together into a disjointed novel about a girl coming of age as a Los Angeles teen runaway. The stories, though centered around a thirteen year old girl named Jade, are told from varying perspectives of the young people all of whom are not only dealing with growing up, but have each somehow been deprived of the traditional ideas of home. Jade, especially young and the last of innocence left in her bleak environment, must be protected by those around her. But who will protect her from them?
