Dissertation/Thesis Abstract

A comprehensive educational program for male and female teen parents: A grant proposal
by Wilkerson, Kelly, M.S.W., California State University, Long Beach, 2010, 58; 1486446
Abstract (Summary)

The purpose of this project was to write a grant to develop a program for male and female teen parents in the Los Angeles area. This proposed project would provide the teen parents with the necessary resources and support to help them to enroll in and complete their higher education. An extensive literature review was made to determine what risk factors are associated with this population. The literature review also examined interventions that would benefit this population.

The California Endowment was selected as the funding source for this proposed project. This project would increase the incidence of teen parents applying for and graduating from schools of higher education. This will decrease the existence of depression experienced by this vulnerable population due to educational underachievement.
