Support group for renal patients: A grant proposal project
by Heidsman-Wellman, Melissa, M.S.W., California State University, Long Beach, 2010, 53; 1486421
Abstract (Summary)

The purpose of this project was to develop a support group for renal patients in the Pasadena, California area. A grant proposal was written to request financial support to start up the support group. The goal of the support group is to provide support and education to patients living with end stage renal disease. A literature review was conducted focusing on patient's quality of life, social support, depression and care getting. Research found that with support from peers, renal patients' quality of life was higher than those patients without a means of support. Potential funding sources were searched via the internet which resulted in the selection of the Amgen Foundation as the best source of funding for this project. A grant was written to support the need for a support group for renal patients in the Pasadena, California area. The actual submission and/or funding of this grant were not a requirement for the successful completion of this project.
