These 72 pages are an excerpt from my 346 page attempt at a novel entitled, "A Thousand Stories Like You and Me." I wrote the novel before entering the Fiction M.F.A. program at California State University, Long Beach. During that time I left "A Thousand Stories Like you and Me" on the shelf, too interested in writing short stories and too busy in reading and writing about great novels to attempt revising my own. Now at the end of my two years in the M.F.A., I have drastically revised my approach to the craft of fiction. This thesis reflects that revised approach to writing, composing a novel, and my identity as a writer.
