by Carter, Carrie Marie, M.S.W., California State University, Long Beach, 2009, 77; 1481583
Abstract (Summary)

The purpose of this project was to write a grant to obtain funding for a psycho-educational support group for female victims of domestic elder abuse in Orange County, California. This service will be offered through Human Options and the Safe Options for Seniors program. There are a growing number of domestic elder abuse cases every year and research has shown that psycho-educational support designed specifically for older adults can be effective for victims of domestic elder abuse. This group is designed to increase the sense of personal control and safety in the women's lives as well as to decrease the stigma associated with abuse and provide support in these victim's lives. Furthermore, the group will help the victim decrease mental health complications resulting from the abuse such as depression and anxiety. The actual submission and/or funding of this grant was not a requirement for the successful completion of the project.
