Abstract (Summary)

Gazing upon gray canvases with elaborate frames, here you shall meet my friends. All of their different destinies, dreams, and ideals in life have somehow brought them here to this same place. While in reality, these select people may never live together and share the same world, in my mind they live collectively. Through a twist of fate, I have engaged with people seemingly dissimilar; however finding solace in such strangers and developing familiarity through our personal interactions with them has motivated and enriched me with me a sense of appreciation for the strength of the potential bonds between human beings. These cutouts are flat and remain generic cookie cutter shapes without the application of color. While at one time devoid of color and expression, the unadorned planes of the wood have donned layers of expressive paint, color and brush work, attempting to reveal the significance and uniqueness of the personalities I find in each. This occurs when personalities at their core are coated by patterns of behavior, rhythms of emotional responses, intensity of attitudes, interests and social roles. Although sometimes unnoticed, all people have remarkable characteristics that can only be discovered through the journey of relationships. It is fascinating how a person can be nothing to some and everything to others.
