Relationship Between Organizational Culture and Cultural Competence in the United States Healthcare System

Abstract (Summary)

The purpose of this quantitative, correlational study was to examine if organizational cultural traits of involvement, consistency, adaptability, and mission predict cultural competence of dentists and dental hygienists in the United States. The Denison’s organizational culture model and the cultural competence model were the theoretical foundations for this study. Denison organizational culture survey and cultural competence assessment instrument were used to collect primary data from 100 dentists and dental hygienists in the United States healthcare system. The data were analyzed through the utilization of SPSS v. 26. The results of a multiple linear regression analysis showed a statistically non-significant relationship between organizational cultural traits and cultural competence of dentists and dental hygienists, F [4, 95] = 1.133, p = 0.346, adjusted R2 = 0.005 including statistically non-significant predictor variables, involvement (p = .907), consistency (p = .342), adaptability (p = .719), and mission (p = .452). Based on those findings, the researcher accepted the null hypotheses. Hence, the organizational cultural traits of involvement, consistency, adaptability, and mission were not statistically significant to predict cultural competence of dentists and dental hygienists in the United States.
