The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) include a middle school Disciplinary Core Idea (DCI) about the transmission of information using analog and digital signals. Most middle school teachers lack the skill and knowledge to properly instruct students about this topic. Teacher content knowledge and pedagogical knowledge have direct impacts on student learning and achievement. As such, teachers need resources and activities to teach this complex topic. A toolkit of activities with accompanying teacher background information resources was constructed to fill this need. Activities were compiled and vetted by the author, reviewed by an independent panel of teachers, and finalized into a toolkit for classroom use.
