School leaders are commonly expected to engage in strategic planning to improve their schools, meet their objectives, and accomplish their missions. However, relatively little is known about how they practice strategic planning. This study investigated the strategic planning practices and perceptions of international Christian school leaders. A literature review placed the study within its historical, practical, and conceptual context. Based on a Strategy as Practice (SAP) approach, qualitative interviews provided comparative perspectives among twenty heads of international Christian schools from around the world. The study found that school leaders are familiar with strategic planning and place a high value on it. School boards have a key role and various ways of engaging with strategic planning at these schools. The school leaders described different ways of connecting strategic planning with continuous school improvement planning. They considered communication and prioritization of strategic planning to be important leadership actions. The findings of this study contributed to the body of research by giving current insight into strategic planning practices and perceptions of international Christian school leaders.
