The purpose of this study was to both create a demographic profile and examine the beliefs of parents/guardians whose children were enrolled in the Fairview Violin Project. This study investigated parents’/guardians’ involvement in their students’ music study, their perceived value of music instruction, and the correlation to the individuals’ own social and cultural capital. Guiding research questions involved ascertaining the levels of involvement, attitudes, and social/cultural capital of the parents. Participants (N = 57) were all parents/guardians of the Fairview Violin Project and all completed a self-report questionnaire. Significant correlations were found between all three pairings of the constructs (parental involvement and attitudes, parental involvement and social/cultural capital, attitudes and social/cultural capital). Significant differences in parental involvement, attitudes and social/cultural capital by highest level of education were found. Significant differences in parental involvement and social/cultural capital by marital status were also found.
