Although extensive studies have provided valuable information to establish the relationship between the success of change and variables like communication, employee commitment, and leadership, it is important to understand the description of the middle manager’s experience during a change process. The purpose of this qualitative narrative inquiry research study was to explore including middle managers in corporate decision-making during an organizational change in non-profit home health care organizations. Since change is inevitable, understanding the experience of middle managers is crucial at the time that the government is using long-term care and home health care as a cost-containment approach to cut health care costs. The researcher recruited six middle managers from non-profit home healthcare organizations in the New York City area using purposive sampling. The research results reflected the experiences of middle managers in non-profit home care organizations and may be transferable to other organizations. The findings were categorized under the themes Change environment, Effective leadership, Employee involvement, Leadership-follower interaction, and Job dissatisfaction in employees. It is important that employers increase recognition and engage middle managers in corporate decision-making that aim to refine the work routines that target middle managers. Leaders should incorporate attitudes that promote a good relationship and engage middle managers in the processes of change implementation.
