Abstract (Summary)

Carousel of Catastrophes is a collection of poems written during my two-years in the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing Program at California State University, Long Beach. Contained in this collection are poems that explore various relationships between others and the self. These selections are snapshots of moments where the subject and other connect, and the resulting association or disassociation. These poems also reflect on how the fear of death offers a distinct lens through which to view life. The poems are categorized into four sections: Love, Death, Family, and Other. The explorations of these complicated relationships invite reflection and catharsis. I hope that others who struggle with the world around them find a way to explore and communicate in order to find release from the chaotic moments in life.
