Dragon, and Other Stories is a coming-of-age story at the dawn of the 21st century. It is collection of interrelated stories about a young woman, Mildred, and her emergence into adulthood. A typical teenager with budding desires, interests and longings, she struggles with isolation, neglect and abuse after the loss of her father and under the care of her mother, who suffers from severe mental illness. As a young adult, Mildred must learn how to move on and build her own life and identity by integrating complex emotions, rescuing the memory of her father, and developing healthy relationships independent of her family of origin. This collection spans the beginning of her story.
