The Afterparty is a collection of poems composed during my residency in the M.F.A. Creative Writing (Poetry) Program at California State University, Long Beach. The collection is divided into an introduction, a conclusion, and three categorical sections. Each of these categorical sections is based on the different types of poetry that I write: Confessional, experimental, and satirical. Each section details the logic and justifications behind the decisions made within my poetics. The confessional poems detail personal aspects of my life and mind, the experimental poems exhibit a willingness to explore the possibilities of poetry, and the satirical poems express various criticisms through humor. While each section is meant to place their respective poems in a logical structure, the categorizations of my poems often overlap with those in other categories.
