Abstract (Summary)

The permanent increasing digitization of communication and interaction allows a more and more flexible and fast capturing and execution of activities in business processes. Technological and organizational drivers such as Cloud Computing and Industry 4.0 allow continuously more complex cross-organizational business processes. Hereby, the effective and efficient integration of all involved people (e.g. IT professionals, end users) can be taken as a critical success factor. Only if the process specific knowledge is known by all participants the business process can be executed successfully. Traditional methods of business process management (BPM) counter the requirement of the balance between flexibility and stability only insufficiently. Both current research and application-related studies depict the lack of integration of all participants, their lack of understanding and the general low acceptance of BPM. The dissertation, which is a part of the user-oriented research project "BPM@Cloud", aims for the development of a new method concerning agile business process management, which is based on common language modeling of business processes. The method comprises three components (approach, modeling language, software tool). Therefore, a holistic support is ensured for the implementation of BPM projects. Through the adaption and extension of existing agile software development concepts a method for an iterative, incremental and empirical management of business processes will be described. Furthermore, a modeling language for the intuitive common language-based business process modeling will be developed. In addition, the implementation of a software prototype allows the direct capturing of feedback during the execution of business processes. The three complementary components - approach, modelling language and software prototype - form a new basis for improved capturing, enrichment, execution and optimization of business processes.
