Dissertation/Thesis Abstract

The Latch: A Breastfeeding Support and Education Center
by Perry, Kathryn, M.S., California State University, Long Beach, 2016, 55; 10169527
Abstract (Summary)

Recent studies have shown that the majority of new mothers in the United States are not receiving the support required in order to meet their personal breastfeeding goals. Still, overall breastfeeding rates are increasing in the United States, and demographic trends suggest that the breastfeeding population is also increasing. Further, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) established new requirements for health plans to cover certain breastfeeding support services for new mothers. As such, there is an opportunity for new companies to meet such critical needs, taking into account the currently unsuccessful breastfeeding health care delivery, the growing market, and transforming payer requirements.

The Latch Breastfeeding Support and Education Center is a new business forming in South Pasadena, California. The mission of The Latch is to promote the health and well-being of new mothers and babies by offering breastfeeding and parenting education, social support, and related products.
