This project presents NonSubsampled Contourlet Transformation (NSCT) based panchromatic sharpening for satellite images. The proposed technique contains two important stages. The first is NSCT decomposition and the second is image fusion. NSCT decomposition is executed by using NonSubsampled Pyramid Filter Banks (NSPFBs) and NonSubsampled Directional Filter Banks (NSDFBs) in combination. Multi-scale decomposition and directional decomposition is performed on input images by using NSPFBs and NSDFBs respectively. Pixel-level fusion is used to fuse coarse level and fine level frequency coefficients generated by NSCT decomposition. Spatial and spectral qualities of output images are preserved by using a higher number of NSCT decomposition levels for panchromatic (PAN) images, and the details of the multispectral (MS) images are preserved by applying upsampling after NSCT decomposition. In this project level 1 NSCT is compared with level 2 NSCT. The performance parameters calculated for the output images indicate that level 2 NSCT provides higher resolution in the pansharpened images.
