Dissertation/Thesis Abstract

In Webs of Phantasy, Combine and Fuse: Toward a Redefinition of the Sonnet & Variations on a Sacred Grove: A Sonnet Sequence
by Rather, Michael Gorden, Jr., Ph.D., University of Louisiana at Lafayette, 2015, 142; 10002447
Abstract (Summary)

The sonnet is often misrepresented as a “pure” form with metrical and lineal limits. “In Webs of Phantasy, Combine and Fuse: Toward a Redefinition of the Sonnet” explores the history of the sonnet and its many manifestations as it attempts a more inclusive definition based on the rhetorical structures inherent in many sonnets. "Variation on a Sacred Grove: A Sonnet Sequence” is a creative verse narrative written in the voice of the Mormon prophet Joseph Smith. The sequence is an attempt to explore the personality of a person who believes himself to be God’s chosen spokesperson.
