Development of a web-based educational resource on the most effective micronutrients in the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes
by Farhad, Keyvan, M.S., California State University, Long Beach, 2015, 105; 1599178
Abstract (Summary)

Type 2 Diabetes is a serious chronic disease and a growing health problem in the United States, causing more than 70,000 deaths and costing $245 billion annually. Although medications, life style modification, and other modalities are used to treat diabetes, natural treatments such as using micronutrients in foods and supplements are generally overlooked.

The purpose of this project was to create an educational website to provide evidence-based information on micronutrients beneficial to prediabetics and diabetics. Micronutrients for Diabetes features an overview of the disease, its complications, and treatments. The main focus of the website however is on 8 micronutrients which, according to the scientific literature, may aid in the prevention or treatment of diabetes. The website not only provides the visitors with evidence-based information on those micronutrients, it also educates them on their food or supplement sources and the dosages used in the studies.
