The self-sourcing Second White Speckled Shale in the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin is of Late Cretaceous (Turonian) age and is a laminated mudstone with inter-bedded siltstone and fine-grained sandstone. The formation is known to have an unreliable and unpredictable production history. Lack of understanding of how the petrophysical characteristics of this particular reservoir interval change throughout the basin could explain the unpredictable production. This research aims to understand the lateral heterogeneity and distribution of petrophysical attributes averaged within the historically productive "B" interval. This research analyzes relationships between certain petrophysical characteristics with successful historical production and suggests locations for further exploration. Well logs and core data were used to create petrophysical models for 18 wells. The results provided foot-by-foot values for the water saturation, clay volume, brittleness, total porosity, and TOC. The "B" interval results were used to map the petrophysical attributes and create a sweet spot map that displayed the most desirable locations for recommended production. The results show the petrophysical attributes within the "B" interval are very heterogeneous throughout the study area and the T30R3W5 section has the optimal petrophysical attributes.
