The purpose of the study was to perform a community risk assessment for dropping out of high school in the 90806 Zip code in the city of Long Beach, California. The Communities That Care model was applied to identify the most concerning risk factors for school dropout among children and youth in this community. The most current 25 indicators of the risk factors were collected from several public sources and used to compare available risk factors in the 90806 Zip code, Long Beach, Los Angeles County, and California. Intervention and prevention efforts to reduce school dropout among youth in 90806 must target the community, family, school, and peer and individual domains. Within this study, recommendations for evidence-based approaches to reduce the most present and concerning risk factors in the community are discussed, as well as implications for social work practice and recommendations for future research.
