A series of unsymmetrical dinitrosyl iron compounds of the form Fe(NO) 2(PPh3)P(C6H4p-X') (X'= p-OCH 3 (2), p-F (3), p- Cl (4) and p-CF3 ( 5)) were prepared.
The compounds were characterized by solution FT-IR spectroscopy, 31P NMR and fiber-optic spectroelectrochemistry. Attempts were made to prepare a series of unsymmetrical imine compounds.
A trend was observed among the unsymmetrical dinitrosyl iron compounds wherein the more basic phosphines had the nitrosyl stretching vibrations (νNO) lower than the less basic phosphines in both the solution and solid phase IR. In the case of the 31P NMR spectroscopy, the more basic phosphines had higher chemical shifts (δ) than that of the less basic ones.
