by Hayes, Unique Tiahara, M.S.W., California State University, Long Beach, 2014, 70; 1527950
Abstract (Summary)

The purpose of this project was to write a grant proposal to identify funding sources for a mental health program for foster youth in the Los Angeles County. The mental health program will provide specialized services. Kedren Mental Health Hospital was selected as the host agency. Foster youths' unique experiences place them at a greater risk of developing mental health disorders than youth in the general population. Many youth in foster care experienced some form of maltreatment whether it is neglect, physical, emotional, or sexual abuse throughout their lifetime. These experiences along with the separation from family members and friends can be emotional and mentally daunting. The actual submission and funding of the grant proposal were not a requirement for the successful completion of this project.
