Abstract (Summary)

Thirty-Year-Old Mulberry Field is a body of mixed media drawings and paintings that embodies unresolvable breakdowns within social interactions and environments. It is a series inspired by my perception of the human social experience and rituals. Mulberry Field utilizes visual context and formal aspects of drawing and painting as a response to the inconsistencies found in the complex web of social processes developed through association, signifier exchange, and interpretation.

I developed my work deliberately towards a state of ambiguity that I saw in my social world. My process was a series of actions and adaptive responses that increasingly revealed the depth of my anxiety and growing awareness of the limitations of the social process. The motif of the figure is central to these works as a channel for the viewer to see both myself, and possibly themselves, in the states of limbo and misalignment present in Mulberry Field
