The purpose of this project was to partner with a host agency, locate a potential funding source, and write a grant to gain funding for an art program to address the educational needs of youth in foster care. A literature review was conducted in order to examine the educational needs of foster youth, reasons foster youth experience educational deficits, and strategies to address the issue. The art program will be held at Zinsmeyer Academy in Long Beach, California and consist of in class art instruction and an after school art club. The art program will help encourage students to remain engaged in school and graduate from high school; decrease behavioral incidents, increase self -esteem, confidence, and expression of feelings, as well as assist students in learning art skills. The actual submission or funding of this grant was not a requirement for the successful completion of the project.
