by Tousi, Sara, M.S.W., California State University, Long Beach, 2013, 114; 1523200
Abstract (Summary)

Grandparents who are caring for their grandchildren are the fastest growing population in our society today. Grandparent caregiving is a result of traumatic and challenging conditions and poses significant obstacles for family well-being. The purpose of this grant is to seek funding to provide psycho-educational grief support groups to address the challenges associated with loss and grief in this population, specifically as it relates to the death of an adult child for the grandparent and parent for the grandchild. Grandparents As Parents (GAP) in Los Angeles, California, will serve as the host agency, as its mission is dedicated to providing supportive services for grandparent caregivers and their grandchildren. The Weingart Foundation was selected as the potential funding agency, due to its common goals with and history of support for other GAP programs. The actual submission and/or funding of this grant is not a requirement for the successful completion of this project.
