Christmas Money and Other Stories
by Chidgey, Kevin, M.F.A., California State University, Long Beach, 2013, 109; 1522563
Abstract (Summary)

This work is a collection of eight short stories. Six of the stories were conceived and written during the M.F.A. program at CSULB. Two of them had their beginnings in earlier times and, through the course of the M.F.A. program, have been reshaped through many revisions into the stories I want them to be. Some common threads in these stories are issues of loneliness and belonging. The characters are people in motion: a nomadic flagpole sitter, a naive young soldier, a lying third-grader, an unsure college student and his drop-out buddy who drive forty miles to return a wallet to an ungrateful goat farmer, an anthropology graduate signing on as an apprentice lineman, a nomadic tradesman who cannot control his hatred, a teen-age boy whose family is getting evicted, and a disfigured anarchist trying to deal with his condition, The characters all experience minor epiphanies, not earth shaking but still telling.
