Abstract (Summary)

Through the exploration of improvisation in the eighteenth-century, this paper describes the importance of implementing improvisation in Mozart's music today. By examining the Serenade in Bb Major, K. 361, the Gran Partita, the modern performer and conductor are given a guide to approaching improvisation using eighteenth-century performance practice methodologies.
