Dissertation/Thesis Abstract

Waiting for Lefty: Seeing red the power of human will
by Okahana, Yuri, M.F.A., California State University, Long Beach, 2012, 13; 1520875
Abstract (Summary)

"Waiting For Lefty: Seeing Red" made a strong statement. It asserted the importance of being able to stand your own ground and speak out for yourself. There has been, and always will be, immense forces that want to repress. Although this compilation of plays was filled with despair, it still articulated the light in life by showing the strength of the human will which provides hope and courage to face the future. The scenographic idea, all scenic elements, and space, all came together to make my conceptual idea stronger and clearer; stressing the importance of resisting oppression and asserting the power of human will. Life continues and the greater the obstacle is, the stronger humanity becomes.
