Dissertation/Thesis Abstract

Pianists and Bach: A Performance proposal for the Fourth Prelude and Fugue from “The Well-Tempered Clavier,” book I
by Lombardino, Marc Rene, M.M., California State University, Long Beach, 2012, 37; 1520870
Abstract (Summary)

The Fourth Prelude and Fugue from the first book of Johann Sebastian Bach's collection titled The Well-Tempered Clavier offers pianists both a sizable challenge and an opportunity to present sublime, excellent music. By exploring these pieces in the context of both their historical predecessors and their fellow works within The Well-Tempered Clavier, one can reasonably present a performance of these pieces that both respects the music and takes advantage of the naturally Romantic character of the modern piano.
