Abstract (Summary)

A grant proposal was developed to obtain funding for a psychosocial support services program for older adults in the Vietnamese community in Orange County, California. The Vietnamese older adults are one of the largest minority populations in Orange County. Many psychosocial support services are offered to older adults in Orange County, but there are a lack of resources and culture-based support services offered in the native language of Vietnamese older adults. The unique needs of this population have been identified. The lack of these needs have been shown to have a negative impact on Vietnamese older adults' physical and mental health conditions. Therefore, psychosocial support services for Vietnamese older adults in their native language is one way to combat social isolation and help to prevent illnesses in order to promote healthy aging.

The grant application and proposal were written without the requirement of submission because the actual submission and/or funding of this grant was not a requirement for the successful completion of the program. However, the Executive Director of the Activity Center for Older Adults approved the proposal for submission of the grant.
