The purpose of this project was to create a program, identify funding source, and write a grant to fund a program to assist former foster youth in their efforts to obtain a college education. An extensive literature review demonstrated the multiple challenges that former foster youth face once they transition from out-of-care including; homelessness, unemployment, unplanned pregnancies, involvement in the criminal justice system, lack of health care, and were less likely to graduate from high school. The proposed program "Guide a Scholar" aims to link and provide former foster youth with support services to promote their academic achievement, financial independence, and build healthy relationships. The Stuart Foundation was identified as a potential funding source based on the similar goals that matched this proposed program. Actual submission and/or funding of the grant was not a requirement for completion of this project.
