by Caraballo-Cole, Tania, M.S.W., California State University, Long Beach, 2012, 68; 1517595
Abstract (Summary)

Parents play a crucial role in the development and well-being of children. Stressors experienced by parents, including mental health issues, impact the quality of parent-child relationships and of children's well-being. Single mothers face a number of challenges and are at risk experiencing higher levels of stress and psychological distress. For the Child is a non-profit agency in Long Beach, California, which provides comprehensive child abuse treatment and family focused mental health care, counseling, and therapy to strengthen families and provide the tools of healing to children. The purpose of this project is to secure funding for MSW training in mindfulness-based interventions. The overarching goal of this thesis grant proposal is to promote the mental health of parents and to enhance parent-child relationships. A thorough review of the literature was conducted to substantiate a need for funding for mindfulness-based interventions and for services for single mothers. Actual submission and/or funding of this grant were not required for successful completion of this thesis project.
