Nuclear is a grouping of photographs and video works that deal with the breakdown of the family unit, the parent-child relationship and the awkwardness of adolescences. With the use of appropriated material from family and public archives, I create new juxtapositions that conflates the personal with the public making a visual language that is accessible to the viewer. I operate as mediator and director by fusing together elements of popular culture with personal tragedy. It is with this push/pull that I create a tension that slowly reveals personal trauma, calling into question the visual information being presented.
