by Martin, Sanaz, M.S., University of California, Davis, 2012, 46; 1512470
Abstract (Summary)

This study explores an Iranian healthcare delivery model, its implementation and outcomes in rural Iran as well as the planned deployment of this model in the Mississippi Delta. Seven interviews were conducted with Iranian Primary Health Care staff in Iran and with initiators of the model in Mississippi. Iranian participants identified the Health Houses Network as the key factor in health improvement and promotion for rural populations over the past 30 years. In consideration of the Mississippi Delta region's lack of an integrated health delivery system, shortage of healthcare professionals, and the poor health status of the population, initiators chose the Health Houses Network as a model for the Mississippi Delta. All participants concluded that the implementation of the Health Houses Network in rural Iran was successful in providing basic healthcare in a cost-effective manner and that this model could be applied in Mississippi.
