The purpose of this project was to develop a grant proposal to fund support groups program for families and their children experiencing a mental health crisis at the Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center [OCCAPC], Orange, California. The proposed support groups program will provide children in a mental health crisis and their families with psycho-education and support. A literature review was conducted to examine information on children experiencing a crisis as a result of untreated mental illness, how this affects children and their families, and best practices for support and psycho-education groups for children in a mental health crisis and their families. The goal of the proposed program is to decrease consequences of unmanaged or untreated mental illness that can lead to interactions with delinquency. This project required identification of a potential funding source and completion of a grant application to fund the program at OCCAPC. Actual submission and funding of the grant was not required for the successful completion of this project.
